Self-Mockery
If we also remember that British humour is thought to be born out of a loathing for oneself, then we must conclude that the British will be excellent at the use of self-mockery.
Self-mockery is the practise of making yourself appear silly to show other people that you have a humorous attitude towards yourself. The British highlight their 'faults' in a funny way in order to appear less helpless. Their secret dislike of, or perhaps more appropriately, their discomfort with themselves is now highlighted as something to be laughed at instead of embarrassed about. This kind of humour also works particularly well when combined with sarcasm.
Here's a motto you could ascribe to the British:
"Nobody can mock me better than I mock myself but I dare you to try."
